3. First Aiders

COVID-19 Update: The RFU have released specific guidance relating to First Aid - please see the information on the Welfare pages of the club website.Link to Welfare/First Aid pages

The MINIMUM recommended level of First Aid cover for each Age Group/Senior Team is to have a nominated Emergency/Sports First Aider. This does not have to be a coach, and also may require a number of volunteers for each team to ensure this role is covered at each game/training session over the course of a season.

These are Team First Aiders and are required to have as a minimum the Emergency First Aid qualification. This is the entry level first aid qualification and is a Level 3 qualification on the National Qualifications Framework. This course takes a minimum of 6 hours training and a certificate will be issued by the awarding body. Any volunteers who already hold such a qualification and wish to become a nominated first aider for their team should speak to their Team Manager in the first instance. They will need to complete a volunteer application form and undertake a DBS. They will also be required to complete the short RFU HEADCASE online course (see the Education and Training page). A copy of their first aid certificate will need to be cheked/confirmed by a member of the Welfare Team and recorded on their RFU profile.

The role of the nominated Team First Aider is to provide help to any injured or ill player until more expert help arrives. They should not attempt to give first aid for which they have not been trained. Each age group/senior team is issued with a First Aid Kit and part of this role, together with the coach, is to ensure that the kit is fully stocked with in date items. Kits can be restocked by contacting Fiona Kellett or Nick Stafford. Further information can be found on the Welfare pages.

The club arrange first aid courses on a periodic basis so those that do not hold such a qualification but are keen to volunteer should contact their Coach or Team Manager in the first instance. Coaches/Team managers should contact Nick Stafford or Lucy Blacksell.

*****Please note that for Home games played at Grappenhall there should be a member of staff (usually behind the bar) that is a trained First Aider with access to a first aid kit. There is a defibrillator outside the main function room on the oustide corner of the building byt he path from the car park to the childrens outside play area..*****

The RFU have an Activate programme which provides further information for coaches and others on injury prevention and management RFU Activate Programme link.

The club are also on the lookout for volunteers to become Club First Aiders, who hold the next level up, the 3 day First Aid at Work qualification.
