Concussion Awareness

All coaches and first aiders should take the HEADCASE online concussion course:
HEADCASE online course
Please make sure you log in first AND take a screenshot of your completion page as there have been issues with the on-line generation of the certificate.

Once registered as a coach with both the club and the RFU there are numerous resources and online courses available on the RFU website, as well as the ability to search for face to face courses (see below).

Age Group Coaching teams are encouraged to discuss and develop a Training Needs Plan amongst themselves, before contacting Club Coaching Co-ordinator Nick Stafford. The club will try and assist with covering course fees wherever possible.

RFU Training Courses

One of the best starting place is the Rugby Ready course (typically 6:30-9:30pm midweek), which will cover all the safety and basic skills aspects of coaching Rugby Union.

The next step for Minis (U6s-U12/13s) will be the RFU CARDS and Gamechangers courses and also one of the KidsFirst CPD courses aimed at your specific age group (again typically 6:30-9:30pm mid-week). It might help if you can get other coaches from your age group to attend the same one so you can discuss ideas etc.

There are some really helpful online resources on the RFU site New Rules of Play linkand also the Kids First site, with skills session for specific skills for each age group up to U13s: Kids First Skills Series Link

For U9s upwards, but especially Juniors (U13s upwards) then each age group is encouraged to implementing the CARDS and Gamechangers approach (see document on WRUFC Training Programme), and to develop at least one coach with the Level 2 England Rugby Coaching Award (ERCA). Other CPD courses address specific areas of the game (contact, scrum, defence, etc).

Face to face training is periodically arranged at WSC but training at other other venues can be searched using the RFU online booking system:
