Excellent learning curve for young players

Coach Andy Roberts took a much mixed squad to Llanduddno to enjoy a testing pre-season work-out. Missing most of their big guns, Warrington’s young players found the Welsh side’s first team just too big and strong. Although they were eventually well beaten, the squad, made up mainly of players from Warrington’s second and third teams, showed that they have absorbed many lessons from pre-season training, especially in their defensive capabilities, tackling manfully and with good technique from start to finish.

As coach Roberts commented, ”I was very pleased with the way the young lads stood up to a very difficult task, especially as we took the field with just one recognized first teamer in the backs and just three first team forwards. No doubt all the players will have benefitted from playing above their normal level and we have established that we have strength in depth to look forward to a good season for all three sides.”

Warrington face another pre-season game against Caldy on 27th August and the first team open this season’s campaign in North 1 West with a match against newly-promoted West Park, St Helens, on 3rd September.
