Stockport 3rd XV 0 Warrington 3rd XV 67
Warrington’s third team completed a thirteen try demolition of Stockport for their best win of the season.
The carnival procession began within five minutes when mobile prop Tom Greene powered his way over from 20 yards. Its was another prop, Mike Haddon, playing on the wing who crossed next, before further first half tries came from the evergreen Tony Fretwell and Tim Grimshaw with a spectacular 50 yard effort from skipper Ben Hart.
Conversions were not the order of the day and Warrington continued on their marauding ways with two more tries from Mike Hadden, two from Gidson Hamblet, and one each from Ian Mclarney, Paul Tierney and Tim Grimshaw with a first try for the club from James Oatway, in only his second game of rugby.
“It just goes to show that a week is a long time in rugby,” mused captain Ben Hart. “Last week we conceded 76 points at Altrincham. This week we score 67 points with no reply from the opposition. Next week we are at Didsbury, who are currently third in the league. Let’s hope we can continue with our cavalier style of play.”
