Didsbury Toc H 2nd XV 18 Warrington 3rd XV 10
Warrington’s third team found it difficult to cope with a heavy Toc H pack on a heavy pitch and were eventually forced to submit to two push-over tries and two penalties.
The home side’s first push-over effort came within the opening quarter but Warrington replied quickly with a superb individual effort from man-of-the-match Jonny Evans, converted by Andy Almond. However, the Manchester side retook the lead with two penalties, although an Almond penalty reduced the home side’s lead to just one point.
The second half belonged to Toc H. Although Warrington had demonstrably the better back division, they were unable to gain clean and tidy possession and the home side continued to force a plethora of penalties, with the inevitable result that a second push-over try was scored.
“Although the conditions did not favour us, I am not blaming them,” said captain Tony Fretwell. “This was a game we could have won if we had maintained the improvement we have shown over recent weeks.”
