Warrington 3rd XV 21 Liverpool University Vets 48
In a difficult game against the league leaders, Warrington’s 3rd team competed manfully until half time but were eventually well-beaten by the naked pace and energy of their youthful opponents.
The young veterinarians soon had points on the board, scoring their first two converted tries in the opening quarter. Warrington replied when ubiquitous prop Tom Green barreled over from ten yards and Darren Norman converted. The Vets added another seven points when their speedy backs combined to score a well-executed try but Tom Green struck again from close range and the sides turned round with the visitors 21-14 in the lead.
The second half saw the Vets in total control apart from one act of blind defiance when Matt Hennessey, on leave fro Saracens, showed that he had lost none of his guile by bluffing his way over from 15 yards. Darren Norman again added the extras.
But it was not to be enough as the University piled on the points in a one-sided second period.
