Warrington Stand Up To League Leaders Northwich

This was a clash between the top of the table and the bottom of the table. But in the event, the game was a closely contested affair between two well-matched sides.

Northwich were the first to score by virtue of a driving maul but Warrington replied with a penalty fro veteran Kevin Jones shortly before half time. The second half saw Warrington totally in defensive mode, with Sam Bennett, Paul Tierney and Phil Lyons outstanding. Although the pace of Nathan Beesley continually threatened to bring results, it was Northwich who finally closed out the game with a catch and drive try from a line out.

“A superb defensive performance,” was the summing up of skipper Kev Jones. “And we are grateful for the cameo roles from Ryan Carter and friends.”
