Warrington 3rd XV 34 Winnington Park 2nd XV 28
Warrington’s third team avenged a 41-17 drubbing earlier in the season, running out eventual winners by 34-28 in their last fixture of the season.
This was a game which Warrington had virtually won by half time, when they enjoyed a 29-14 lead. Their first score came from Jeff Millington who popped over from short range. Danny Griffiths then took the score to 12-0 when he converted his own opportunist try. Park replied with a well-worked try through their forwards but Warrington then increased their lead again when prop Alex Marland drove over and Danny Griffiths converted. Winnington replied with a converted try to reduce the Warrington lead to just five points but further unconverted tries from Jamie Thompson and Dan Johnstone saw the sides turn round with Warrington 29-14 ahead.
Two converted tries from Park saw them creep back to within a point of the home side but Jamie Thompson ensured eventual victory with a late try in the corner.
“A great effort,” said skipper Dan Griffiths. “And a big thanks to the lads who turned out today, especially the Hambletts, the Littles and Jonny Evans, who volunteered to play out of position.”
