u14's V Glossop
By Mike Malley
A good performance on a difficult pitch!
The u14's continued with there preparation for next weeks cup semi final by putting on a decent performance against a good side on a ploughed field of a pitch.
We lost Joe S before the game even started when he turned his ankle on a potato, the lads had enough strength and depth however to turn over a Glossop side who struggled to contain our back line. The forwards initially got things going, following a series of phases in our half the ball span out to Rorio who burst down the wing to give us an early lead, Matty converted. This was quickly followed by a lovely Rev D which saw Jim clear through the middle, he offloaded to Lightnin' who did the rest. The lead was not one we were going to relinquish and we ran in 2 further tries in the first half, the second of which was a great cross field kick from CJ which landed perfectly for Whit to dive onto. We lost Henry at this point to a number 1 (or was it a number 2?).
The second half carried on were the first left off, we ran in a series of tries from Rorio, Leo, Jude L and Whit, whilst Jude Smith took over kicking duties from Matty.
The handling today was superb, we ran straight (most of the time) bringing the wingers into the game, the forwards performed solidly and we nilled a good side. However, it wasn't as one sided as it sounds, in the second half Glossop suddenly realised the way to compete against us was to utilise there big pack and the game suddenly became a bit more competitive. Riley, Ed and Isaac however met fire with fire and ensured we were always on the front foot with some aggressive rucking.
Next week - the cup semi final v Littleborough!
