Warrington fielded two teams of 6 against Blackburn who played with 7 on each team, and the Wire ran out winners in 3 of the 4 matches

With the Easter holidays Warrington's numbers were depleted, and we only just managed to get 2 teams out on the paddock, while Blackburn had 14 players and their coach requested that they play 7 against our 6 to even the matches up.

There were two large pitches marked out, and the dry dusty conditions made for some fast paced rugby which certainly caused some fatigue to show late on in the second matches.

Warrington Reds: Adam, Cameron, George, Josh, Sam, Stephen
Warrington Greens: Ben, Charlie C, Eddie, Gareth, Gregor, Joe

Warrington Reds 11 - 6 Blackburn B
Tries: Adam 6, Josh 2, Cameron, George, Stephen
The Reds got off to and made the most of their possession to lead -
at half time, with Adam already racking up a hat-trick.

The second half saw more of the same with Adam keeping the scorers busy with his second hat-trick; Stephen scored a fine long range try with some impressive side-steps, while a great effort by George who went in from half way brought huge cheers from the visiting supporters!

Warrington Greens 6 - 9 Blackburn A
Tries: Ben 2, Eddie 2, Joe 2
This was a tight game with Blackburn just in front 4-3 at the half, and it was the superior passing play of Blackburn that resulted with them pulling away in the second half.

Both teams scored some very good tries, although Warrington could learn from some of the unselfish passing of Blackburn that found their wingers in acres of space and able to walk in at the corner.

Warrington Reds 9 - 8 Blackburn A
Tries: Sam 3, Josh 2, Stephen 2, Adam, Cameron
The Reds just managed to pip the stronger Blackburn A team in a very close contest.

Sam started very brightly for Warrington and scored Warrington's first two tries, followed by a brace from Josh before Sam completed his hat-trick and Stephen completed the Warrington scoring to lead 6-4 at the half.

The fatigue was telling in the second half, and Blackburn took advantage as they pulled the scores back level at 8-8 late in the game, only for Stephen to be on the end of a good long range move by Warrington to snatch victory when he dived in at the corner

Warrington Greens 9 - 4 Blackburn B
Tries: Ben 4, Eddie 3, Joe 2
The Greens gained revenge for their opening match defeat by running out very comfortable winners against the weaker Blackburn B team.

The pace of Ben, Joe and Eddie was too much for the tiring Blackburn defenders, and this resulted in some fine long range tries from the Wire.

Summary:
Earlier in the season Warrington drew against Blackburn in the Plate Final at Manchester, and so to travel to their backyard and play against an extra man to come away with 3 wins out of 4 was very pleasing.

The warmer weather and bone dry pitches allowed both sides to show off their running skills, and there were some great tries to keep the large crowd occupied.

All of the boys worked hard in defence yet again, and the form looks good going into the tournament season, where we begin at Val of Lune where we're defending the trophy ...
