Rebels tested by determined Sedgley resistance

Sedgley Park's small squad meant that the teams were evenly matched in numbers for a change, and for much of the play, this continued on the field.

Whilst scoring is never a problem for the Rebels, tagging defence was poor and it was only the effort put in by Ben Lomax that kept the visitors at bay, Ben notched up 19 of the teams 50 tags with Zak Mitchell also impressing with seven tags.

Game 1 was used by both coaches to assess the opposition and so a mixed skills match unsurprisingly ended in a 4-4 draw.

THe introduction of (allegedly) stronger players in game two meant that tries flowed more freely with Jacob Sollory-Park scoring twice but tagging was lacklustre as we stood back and allowed Sedgley to attack and score from close-in a couple of times….more aggressive defence would have kept the opposition up the field.

Result 7-4.

In the final game the problems in defence continued, Harrison Dillon worked hard to marshall the defence and to maintain a solid line but the opposition had wind in their sails now and broke through the line too easily and too often.

Another brace of tries from Jacob was not enough to change the result, a 4-5 win for Sedgley.

One clue to some of the slower performances today…the dreaded sleepover effect, once again we had a couple of zombies in the squad!!!

Top tagger was of course Ben, KAI JAMSON was top passer, good for you Kai, and, a new name on the try trophy, Jacob topped the scoring with four tries, well done Jacob.

Coaches award went to Harrison who listened to the coaches on the sidelines and tried really hard to organise the boys on the field, particularly in game three, congratulations Harrison!
