Old Brods at Home
The under 15's put in a great attacking and defensive display against tough opposition.
Old Brods made the journey over to Warrington in dry, sunny conditions perfect for running rugby. Having never played them before we had no idea what to expect but judging by the warm up they looked like they could handle themselves.
The opening exchanges were evenly matched, albeit mostly played out in the Brods 22. The territorial advantage eventually told when Jim barged his way through from 10 yards out to score under the posts, Matty converted the first of 6 in a great kicking display.
Old Brods struggled with our back line speed and five minutes later quick hands worked the ball out to Rorio on the wing, he created his own overlap as he put on the afterburners to cut in under the posts and score our second. Ed scored the third following a break from Nathan who found CJ in support and as he went down Ed was there in support to go in.
Rorio scored a fourth just behalf half time. Following a great drive from Rhys, Matty scooped up the ball under pressure and span it out to Rorio who showed great strength handing off 2-3 tacklers to stay just in touch and to go in to extend the lead. Despite the scoreline our indiscipline cost us as we gave away several penalties throughout the half eventually leading to a yellow just before half time, we also lost CJ to what looked like a nasty knee injury when putting in a great defensive tackle to keep Brods nilled at half time.
Fair play to Old Brods, they came out in the second half determined to even things up despite being 28 down and it only took them a couple of minutes to register a deserved try. They had us pinned back in our 10 metre line, there big forwards taking drive after drive, eventually bulldozing there way through.
Things could have really gone wrong at this point as we had continued to rack up the penalties and following a warning from the ref we had 2 yellows shown for persistent off sides (i think). Despite only having 13 on the pitch the lads showed real steel to keep an aggressive Brods pack out. 2-3 times we held them up and as Brods threw themselves into the attack sensing blood we sucker punched them when Jim broke from half way to to extend the lead.
Old Brods had the bigger pack and Ed, Isaac and Riley had a job competing up front but when we span the ball around our back line Brods struggled to keep up. This told when a superb Rev D ended up sending Charlie clean through to round off the scoring. 42-7 was probably slightly flattering but it was still good to put 6 tries past a good side.
Some great performances today, it was good to see Jack Darby play for the first time in a while and Jacob Delaney did well in his first run out for the team.
Thanks to the injured lads who keep turning up to support the lads, especially Jude Smith with his comedy cast and a big shout to Ewan who everyone was thinking about following his knock in Fridays training session.
Also thanks to Garry for doing a superb job reffing and to Michael and the Old Brods lads for a great game, we'll get the return fixture pencilled in. Next week another Yorkshire team - West Park Leeds!
