Warrington had 2 wins from 2 games so far, and Orrell were yet record a victory, however the visitors were able to welcome back a number of cross code players into their squad to strengthen them.
Warrington were much the sharper initially with quick recycling and clean distribution allowing George W to latch onto a fine cross field kick from Fred for the opening try in the first minute. Fred followed up with the conversion, 7-0. Further good ball retention saw slick handling from backs and forwards to put Sam in at the corner for an early 12 -0 lead.
Orrell fought back with some tight play around the breakdown and manged to get in under the posts to make it 12-7. Almost straight away, Warrington reposted with more good ball retention and another pin point cross field kick from Fred put Ollie O in for a fine finish, 17-7. Orrell came back again through their determined forwards and scored to make it 17-12 at half time.
The half time team talk paid dividends, as Warrington came out with a more accurate display in the second half to blow Orrell away in a clinical 15 minute spell. Tries from Mackenzie with a typical uncompromising run, Pad racing through following more fine handling, and birthday boy Fraser with a trademark injection of pace put the tie well beyond Orrell as the composure of the team made their class tell. Fred converted all three tries to make it 38-12.
Orrell were not done though and came back with two more belligerent converted tries of their own to bring some respectability to the score line. 38-26. Warrington had the last say however, with yet more slick handling putting Pad in at the corner to complete his brace.
Areas to work on, but a lot of positives to celebrate too.
Warrington are now top of their Lancashire Cup group with tough fixtures to come in January against Vale of Lune and Blackburn.
