Warrington finish top of their group in the Lancashire Cup

Warrington Rugby Union's final group stage of the Lancashire Cup, was long trip away to Vale of Lune on a windy and very rainy Sunday morning. The visiting team needing a win to secure the top spot of the group wasted no time in staking their claim. A long kick and good defensive chase pinned the home side in their own half and the early pressure paid off with a try from Freddie Hartill in the first 5 mins, Hartill again made a break several minutes later to put Paddy Shephard in for the 2nd. Then, when George Welsh scored the 3rd, it became a procession with Mikey Craven, Joe Collins, George Kelly (or was it Keane Hoyes? the debate continues) all crossing for tries in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, Shephard scored 2 more for his hat-trick before Welsh got his 2nd, Jack Pendlebury and Fin Hill completing the scoring on the full-time whistle. 9 conversions from Hartill gave a 0-73 final score.

Forwards coach, John Callendar was full of praise for his team. "It was a long journey and a very wet day and would've been easy to give it up but the lads played their hearts out for the full game. Aggressive in defence with some real class in attack. Using the ball the way they did in such conditions was a testament to the time the lads put in to working on their skill and striving for team wins over personal glory was particularly gratifying."

Warrington u15's have now finished top of their group and will play a quarter final at their home ground, Grappenhall Sports Club on the 4th February.
