It took us a while to thaw

On a frosty, Sunday it took Warrington the first half to shake off Christmas and begin to play some good rugby again. The 1st half was scrappy with Manchester dominating possession and Warrington showing a staunch defence. One score for the visitors in the 1st half came from an Olly Orgill trademark tackle forcing the ball free for Dylan Bradley to kick the loose ball through to score. 0-5 at halftime.

From the whistle Warrington looked like a different team with the message to 'keep the ball-in-hand' from the coaches, a long ball from Freddie Hartill put Paddy Shephard through a gap to give George Welsh a clear sprint to the line. After some strong carries from Keane Hoyes and Jedeon Swanpoel in the middles, Dylan Bradley found space on the edge to jump from a ruck for his second. As Warrington started to dominate a rolling maul found the ball in Jedeon Swanpoel's hands for the prop to go over before Paddy Shephard scored the try of the game with a solo effort from the kick off. Conversions by Hartill.

Forwards coach John Callendar was cautiously optimistic about the sides first display of 2024, "We've learnt some valuable lessons today and the lads know they need to start with a lot more impact. We worked very hard to keep a good opposition to nil. We have crucial cup ties for the next two weeks and our forwards will need to step-up in an aggressive attack as well as showing commitment to each other in defence if we're to prove successful."
