Warrington u15's maintained their perfect record in the Lancashire Cup against a dogged Blackburn team. A workmanlike first half with the strong Warrington pack doing the damage down the middle against a resilient Blackburn defence. Eventually the break came with a barnstorming run from second rower, Keane Hoyes to burst through the defence and round the fullback. Hooker and captain, McKenzie Morris showing his pace, footwork and power to break several tackles for the second. A few loose passes and failed opportunities kept the home team in the hunt before Freddie Hartill stepped through on short side, conversions from Hartill to make the halftime score 0 - 21.
The second half began in a similar form with a Jack Pendlebury cross-field kick collected by Paddy Shephard to go over in the corner. However the game wasn't done with Blackburn rallying and showing their resilience, pinning Warrington in their own 22 for most of the 2nd half and claiming two tries of their own. Final score 14 - 26 to Warrington.
Warrington coach, Iain Pybus was mixed in his assessment, "The first half of rugby was close to our best of the season, Blackburn are a good side and we didn't have it all our own way but our intensity never dipped. After the 2nd half early score we relaxed a little and a few dropped balls meant that we defended for most of the second half. The lads defended well but we made it unnecessarily hard for themselves and unnecessarily stressful for their coaches and the travelling Warrington support."
Final group stage of the Lancashire Cup, next week against Vale of Lune where a win would mean that Warrington finish top of their group.
