Warrington go through the gears to make it through the Lancashire Cup quarter final

After a friendly several weeks back, both teams came in to this contest fully aware of their opposition. Warrington won that game after a tough first half but this week were missing Keane, who was influential in the first fixture. Warrington were rewarded for topping their group with a home fixture and the game couldn't have started any better for the home side, a strong chase from a deep kick off rewarded with a try. Ollie Orgil got on the end of a loose ball, a pass to George Kelly who attacked the line with McKenzie Morris jumping from the resulting ruck to crash over in the corner. And then Manchester did exactly the same thing - but a little smoother. The drop-out went straight to the Manchester winger at full-pace who quickly escaped the Warrington forwards and beat the covering tackle attempts. 5-5.

The game then settled down with both sides going through the gears in attack and working hard in defence. As Warrington began to insert their dominance a Manchester's attempted kick clearance found Ty Swinton who beat a few players before finding Paddy Shephard on the wing to score. The resulting Manchester drop-out went to Shephard to score the try of the game. Stepping through the defence to break then switching the ball to fend the covering defender to score his second try in as many minutes. When a nice play on the right started by Luke Pybus and finished by Fraser Savage, the home team were in control. Manchester came back with a try themselves before prop, Fin Hill who had created several line breaks got his hands on the ball close to the line to burst through and score.
Half-time 27-12

Against the wind, Warrington kept the ball in hand for the 2nd half and importantly their defence kept the opposition at bay. Morris and Savage going over for their second tries and winger, Sam Laird grabbing one at the death. Conversions by Jack Pendlebury.
Assistant coach, David Hartill was pleased with the shape, "We don't play a traditional style of Union, in that we use our 3 halfbacks to attack in areas across the pitch which helps to stretch defences and we work a lot on skill development. However the traditional route of forwards getting us going forward for backs to attack a retreating defence is still primal. Our middles worked very hard today allowing us to have threats off the back of rucks or in the backs out wide."
The semi final is on 18th February.
