Mixed Warrington team lay a marker down for the rest of pre-season.

A mixed squad from Warrington blew the cobwebs away with a very positive run out against Winnington Park. Watched on by former Winnington Park, England and Lions scrum half Dewi Morris, a strong squad got to show what the hard graft of pre-season has been all about against a quality opponent. With the game much more about structures and personnel than the scoresheet, Warrington did however keep the electronic scoreboard operator relatively busy as they showed the brand of attractive running rugby that they aspire to play. The beauty of the mixed squad and good numbers meant that some of the younger members of last year's 2nd team success (and older ones Kirk & Dave) got to sample playing with and amongst their heroes, whilst also putting their hands up to suggest they're more than at home at this level.

Club Captain Josh Downes gave his thoughts after the game, "Following a solid pre-season so far, it was great to see so many lads turn out against Winnington Park. All the lads have been working really hard over the last couple of months and that showed on Saturday. We do have areas that will need addressing in the next few weeks leading to the start of the competitive season, but we executed the shape we have been working on well, the set piece was strong and there was a real atmosphere amongst the team which is great. A special mention for Ryan Eastwood who made his debut for Warrington RUFC; he made a good impact and I am looking forward to seeing him continue to progress in this team.

We have a busy pre-season schedule planned which will allow us to continue to sharpen our game ahead of the opening league fixture on the 7th September with the next outing being our annual trip down in Caernarfon next week which should make for a great weekend of rugby".

With less than a month now until the opening league fixtures for the 1st and 2nd team there's also a call to arms for players to make every effort to attend training so that everyone can understand how we play and to make competition for places as healthy as possible.

Any support in Caernarfon next week would be massively welcome. KO will be early so that everyone can watch Wales - England in the club after.
