Fylde 3rd XV 10 Warrington 2nd XV 37
This was a game where Warrington proved that defence really does win games For the first 30 minutes of this match Warrington were totally under the cosh but they refused to yield. Eventually, Warrington managed to break loose and new recruit Harry Stevens dashed over for the first two of his four tries, both of which were converted by Andy Almond.
Fylde came back with two unconverted tries in the first ten minutes of the second half but Warrington responded splendidly with two further tries from Harry Stevens, two penalties from Andy Almond and a final try from Luke Turner.
“A great team effort,” enthused skipper Craig Byrne, playing for the first time in his career at stand-off. “Our defence in the first half was awesome and our attack in the second half was clinical. And it’s great to see that we are now second in the league.”
