The u16's go missing in action in a lacklustre performance.

Not much i can say about this morning apart from the best team won. We struggled from the off with the main issue being our desire, Waterloo simply wanted it more.
From the kick off Waterloo spilled the ball and from the resulting penalty we went through several phases but couldn't break down the Waterloo defence. Despite the positive start we went behind when on 8 minutes we softly turned the ball over to Waterloo and there fast number 10 broke through our flappy defence clearing half the pitch to score. CJ almost caught him with a last gasp ankle tap but he managed to skip out of reach.
The Waterloo pack dominated throughout the morning and 5 minutes later they doubled there advantage when we lost our own scrum and Waterloo span it out quickly to go in at the corner. We then went through a 20 minute period were we knew the next score would probably dictate the result, unfortunately it was Waterloo who got it, all 3 tries converted to give them a 21-0 lead at half time.

The half time message was to get involved in the ruck and win that first collision. We improved marginally in the second half, the cries of 'nil them' from the Waterloo lads providing some early motivation. We started to spin the ball out wide and Cam S scored a terrific try in the corner, he had an excellent game down the wing and was one of the few bright spots in a dismal team performance. For the next 5-10 minutes the lads heeded the half time message and we forced our way within 5 metres of the Waterloo line with some solid rucking, Waterloo defended superbly but we eventually went in when Jacob crashed over from short range, Jack B converted to put us within 9 points. This is as close as we got though as the Waterloo forwards dominated the rest of the game and 2 late tries took them out of range.

The most disappointing aspect of the game was our general attitude, to much squabbling and laying the blame on each other. There were times when we had a man over on the wing and the ball was getting passed straight to the outside man. Waterloo also frequently had an overlap and they used it every time which resulted in most of there tries this morning. We also failed to deal with Waterloo's line speed, they got in our faces and disrupted our game, we need to learn to deal with teams like this.

Anyway, if you fall of the horse get straight back on it, we have no time to dwell on this poor start to our cup campaign with Fylde the visitors next week! Hopefully we will see a much improved performance! Thanks to Dave and the Waterloo lads and to the ref who officiated superbly.
