The Greens show what they are made of!

With a team depleted through holdays and league games we were lucky to get a full fifteen, but we did, and despite a bit of shuffling around we ended up with a decent line-upwhich demonstrated once again the strength we have in depth in our squad. It was a great day for rugby and we were treated to an entertaining and fast moving game.
We started at good speed , with Preston responding with equal vigour. The game moved from end to end as both teams looked for field position. Preston won a couple of early penalties for offside but couldn't capitalise and Warrington took the initatiative, with some fast ball ending up in Matty's hands for him to dart through for our first try, which he converted himself. Preston's KO doesn't go 10, and we win a penalty from the resultant scrum. A great kick to touch puts us back well into their half. Good pressure from our forwards gifts us a penalty on thier line. This time we go for the corner. We lose the line out but Preston knock on in fromt of the posts. Quick ball from the scrum and Matty is over again in the corner. This time no comnversion.
Preston come back at us and a kick goes over our heads followed by a lot of eager Grasshoppers. Fortunately it goes too deep and we scramble back to touch down for a 22 drop out which all but ends the first half. 0 - 12 to us and the break.
Unfortunately for Preston we pick up our game in the second half. A thundering run from Jacob from the kick off takes us back into their half. We kick deep with out runners chasing but the ball goes to touch. We win this one and once again the ball is flying out to the wing, this time over to the left where it gets to Jude who scores his first. Matty converts. We're on a roll now. A passage of broken play with the Wire constantly pressuring our opponents and Chats drives over for our 4th, once agaion converted by the reliable Matty. 0 - 26.
Preston come back at us, finally, getting some pace and ball from their big guys. Despite some excellent defence on out part they manage to break through for their first, converted, try.
This just fires us up even more and we respond in style and run it back straight at them giving Jude his second. Matty converts. We then win turnover ball from a lineout in our half and the redoubtable Jacob, who had a cracking game throughout, shows an impressive turn of pace and runs the length of the pitch, bouncing off potential tacklers as he goes. He could have scored himself but opts to pass inside to CJ whoc scores between the posts. Converted Jude! 7 -40. There's just time for Jude L to score his hat trick from a ball moved out from a quick penalty and its all over. Final score 7 - 45.
Overall, this was a very good team performance with everyone contributing to a first class result. Good scrumming and maulling, fast ball out to the backs and good kicking, great defence and suprisingly good communication. Lovely to watch. Many thanks to Preston for hosting (and commiserations on the result) and thanks to the society ref who was firm and fair throughout. Onwards the Wire!
