Warrington RUFC Webmaster10 Nov 2023 - 15:57

Past Players

It is with very deep sadness the Club have to report the passing of Frank Burrows & Jamie Yancy.

Frank Burrows what can one say he was a regular player for the 1st team from 1953, club captain in 1960/61 season, until 1969/70 season, and played for the lower teams as well. Frank was an exceptional hooker and played occasionally for Liverpool RUFC when their man was unavailable. Frank was Club President from 1986-88, he was a real clubman who could was gone on to greater things but preferred to stay at Warrington with his ‘mates’. Later in life Frank was a keen bowls player but had a fall last year which left him paralysed and he passed away on 5th November 2023 in Southport Hospital where he had been transferred to from Warrington Hospital.

Franks funeral is at 10am on Friday 24th November at Walton Lea crematorium, followed by a reception at the Walton Arms.

Jamie Yancy came through Kenny Wilkinson’s colts team with Gideon Hamblett and went on to play mainly 3rds or4ths, made a couple of 1st team appearances when Brian Juliffe wanted an enforcer, not the most skilful but was one of the hardest/maddest players. He played 2nd row mostly 80s & 90s till he moved away. A character on but especially off the pitch a mainstay of the crazy nights at Bridge Lane. With regard to funeral arrangements his family are bringing him back to Warrington to be buried details of which will available when known.

The Club send condolences to both families on their loss.
