1st Team Report for Saturday 11th October 2025

WARRINGTON 68 – 20 TARLETON

Warrington carried on from last week with another impressive performance this time over Tarleton and retained their position at the top of the table ahead of Eccles by virtue of a superior points difference.

Tarleton kicked off with the slight slope, strong tackling kept Warrington down in their own 20 a reliving penalty took them into the Tarleton half but a scrum penalty allowed Tarleton to kick to the left hand corner but the Warrington defence held firm and effected a turn over. Warrington opened up, excellent play with strong running from the backs took them well into the Tarleton half. Tarleton conceded a penalty which JP Hudson duly dispatched between the uprights. 3-0

Play was even with defences showing great resolve but on 15 minutes Hudson kicked another penalty. 6-0

From the kickoff an excellent break by Ryan Newton followed with a well-judged kick ahead a favorable bounce which Joe Craven gathered to run over and score, Hudson added the extras. 13-0

Although Tarleton had the edge in the scrums the Warrington pack did well with the front row of Green, Bennett and Hamblett showing great resolve, a quick ball from a set piece saw a great break by Craven who broke through a couple of would be tacklers to outrun the covering defence to score wide out. 18-0

Tarleton tried to gain a foothold in the game, their forwards laying the ground work with quick passing in the backs but then kicked away possession which Beeley returned to stop any momentum. On 26 minutes a Tarleton penalty saw play down in the Warrington 20, their forwards gained the ball and went over for a try. 18-5

Warrington replied minutes later after good work at a lineout, scrum half Jack Whittaker, who caused Tarleton no end of trouble all afternoon, with a quick pass to Beeley who put in a lovely through ball, centre Newton gathered to run through to score under the posts, Hudson converted. 25-5

Tarleton replied after a forward rush in the Warrington half with the ball out along their backs to score. 25-10

Tarleton forwards made head way developed an attacking platform, ball went out along their backs but Beeley intercepted a pass from inside his own half and managed to have enough in the tank to score wide out to bring the first half to an end and give Warrington their try bonus point.

HT 30-10

Warrington started the second half as they had finished the first half with the ever present backup play of a Jonny Evans try, gaining the ball from their kick off, interpassing down the right wing to score, Hudson converted with an excellent kick. 37-10

Warrington’s style of play continued to bear fruit, quick recycling being a feature with telling and forceful runs by captain Danny Fleming, second row pair of Will Morgan and Harry Kellett much in evidence, until the latter unfortunately leaving the field injured later in the half. Tries from Hudson, who converted his own try, and Luke Turner took the score to 49-10.

Tarleton to their credit never gave up and managed a try of their own, their forwards again being the platform for their score aided by a few penalties from at times an overeager defence. 49-15

Turner scored his second try with determined running shaking off would be tacklers to score 56-15 after 50 minutes.

On 65 minutes another quick break, Newton holding of tacklers managed to pass the ball out to Hudson who ran through to score under the posts, his conversion followed. 63-15

With Will Uttley now at fly half, Max Caldwell at fullback, Andy Kellet and Sam Whalley at wing forward the enterprising play shown all afternoon was still evident as Uttley cut through a tiring defence to score a lovely try. 68-15

With 9 minutes remaining a yellow card for Warrington prop Green, pinged for a scrum infringement, our replacement prop off injured uncontested scrums were held and Warrington were down to13 at times but strong defence kept their line intact. It was only on full time that Tarleton managed to get their fourth try and hence went away with a bonus point.
