1st Team Report for Saturday 7th March 2026

TRAFFORD MV 19 WARRINGTON 92

As league positions before the match suggested, this might be a very one sided game and so it proved to be with Warrington running in fourteen tries, seven in each half, to three from Trafford MV (TMV).

Warrington collected the kick-off cleanly and kept the ball moving until a decisive break by the powerful back rower Joe Craven opened the door for centre Archie Kellett to score under the posts. Less than than two minutes gone, TMV hadn’t touched the ball and Warrington were on their way. JP Hudson added the conversion. 0-7

The omens looked even bleaker for the home team at the first scrum when Warrington’s pack, with a front row of Bennett, Wilson and Green, shunted TMV back to win the ball against the head.

With ten minutes on the clock, Warrington moved the ball down the line in a simple and seemingly effortless move to put winger Tom McEniff in for the first of his three tries. A knock to JP Hudson now required Will Uttley to step in at stand-off with Jude Lightfoot filling Uttley’s wing spot. This enforced change had little impact on the fluidity of Warrington’s back play and McEniff soon racked up his second score. 0-17

From the restart, centre Ryan Newton ran the ball back strongly handing on to Craven on the half way line from where his strong running shrugged off would-be tacklers giving him a try under the posts, Uttley with the conversion. 0-24
With half an hour gone, the home team got themselves on the scoreboard scoring via a long succession of pick and drives where their patience and good control of the ball paid dividends. 5-24

Winger Lightfoot added his name to the scoreboard just two minutes later and two minutes after that a well weighted kick and chase from centre Kellett earned Warrington’s sixth try, both converted by Uttley. A brilliant solo effort from the man himself, selling dummies left and right from 35m out, rounded off the half for Warrington.

HT 5-45

Warrington were immediately back to their scoring ways when TMV knocked on at the restart. Steady possession from the ensuing scrum gave centre Newton time to pick up steam and he powered through some poor TMV tackling to score under the posts Uttley again converted. 5-52

Craven also benefitted from lack lustre tackling when he charged over from 35m out just five minutes later and with twenty minutes to go McEniff registered his third try courtesy of an inch perfect cross kick from Kellett, Uttley again converted. 5-64

TMV now had the briefest of purple patches when they scored their second try again through a well-executed succession of pick and goes and a third from the back of a line-out just 10m from the Warrington line. 19-64

Warrington quickly responded with another Kellett try after carries by Fleming and Craven.

Straight from the restart after this, Warrington’s eleventh try, it took only two passes from Warrington to score again against a now thoroughly dispirited opposition; collection by Johnnie Evans, then to Oli Hudson and finally to scorer full back Max Caldwell.
Prop Tom Green scored next following a kick from Lightfoot deep into TMV territory and Lightfoot himself had the last word on the end of a three pass response to the restart. With Uttley converting all four.

FT 19-92

With five games left in the season Warrington are just three points behind league leaders Wilmslow, but with a slightly easier run in, and five and seven points respectively ahead of Eccles and Aldwinians. So all to play for.
