Due to half term Wire were down to 12 players, so both teams played with 5 man packs, on a pitch that was very heavy going in places.
Straight from the kick off the Wire pack was on top in the rucks, providing plenty of quality ball for another makeshift backline featuring forwards in the centre (again). Widnes had no real answer to the pace and power of the Warrington backs, especially Stephen and Lucas who scored 7 first half tries between them.
The match was effectively over by half time with a scoreline of 45-0, and the line up was shuffled even more for the second half.
The tries didn't flow as fast in the second half, in part due to some questionable kicking decisions, but mainly due to some dogged determination from the Widnes lads who despite the one sided scoreline, really dug in during the final quarter, several times applying some concerted pressure to the Wire line. Fortunately the defence held out, and Wire ran out 75-0 victors.
Next up, we return to Cup action at Blackburn , hopefully with a few more players making the trip!
