The previous week's sunshine was a distant memory at WSC, grey skies and continual drizzle, coupled with soggy conditions underfoot didn't do much to inspire the crowds, but thankfully the players were up for some good rugby, as both clubs played some attractive rugby on the day.
Blackburn arrived with a squad able to field1 team with plenty of subs, while Warrington had 18 players split into two even teams 'A' and 'B' once again.
Warrington 'A' 6 - 5 Blackburn
Team: Ben, Charlie C, Charlie W, Eddie, Josh, Max, Michael, Patrick, Sam S
Tries: Ben, Charlie W, Eddie, Michael, Josh, Sam S
Some direct running paved the way for Warrington, as these straight runs carved holes in the Blackburn defence several times, most notably with long range tries form Josh and Sam S.
A better disciplined defensive performance caused Blackburn's attackers to run cross field on a number of occasions and as a result produced a few turnovers.
The most pleasing aspect from a coaches perspective is that 6 different players scored the tries.
Warrington 'B' 6 - 4 Blackburn
Team: Adam, Cameron, Charlie B, Declan, Jack, Joe, Gregor, Sam M, Stephen
Tries: Adam (4), Sam M, Stephen
Blackburn scored on their first possession and it took some time for Warrington to level the first try of Adam in the match. His second try was the final score of a tight first half.
The second half was more open, with both teams finding their way over the try line, but Warrington secured the win with 4 more tries, with Adam ending the match with 4 tries.
As with the first match at times the defensive line held and forced turnovers on a number of occasions.
Finally, thanks to the Blackburn players and coaches for playing the game in great spirits, we look forward to continuing this rivalry that seems to bond us in the Manchester tournament.
